I am proud to announce that all the clothes in today’s outfit are recycled. I know most of you, like me, are feeling the pinch of the current economic slowdown.  One of the first things to get cut is your wardrobe dollars, at least in my house it is-a huge point of contention, BTW.  My friend Erika is leaving Las Vegas for greener pastures. Thankfully, she thought of me when she was cleaning out her closet, and I inherited a bunch of really cool shit! I think there were at least 12 new outfit possibilities stuffed into that old DSW shopping bag.  I can’t wait to pair up the new goodies with some of my older stuff.

p1010198The top, she claims, was a clearance rack find by DKNY.  It’s made of light stretchy mesh and manages to be both classic and modern at the same time.  The cream, cuffed pants are from White Black Market.  They came with a patch of puppy hair stuck on the waistband.  I know Erika’s little pup must have snuggled up on these pants, and, really, can you blame her? They are super comfy-plus, I just adore clothes with history.

The extra long necklace is from Betsy Johnson, scored a couple summers ago. Right after I took this picture, I somehow ripped off the bottom-most bead with my seatbelt and spent the rest of the day searching for it. I finally found it stuffed in the crack of the driver’s seat. Now to find a jeweler who can repair it…recycle, repair, reuse!

I have these sandals, my favorite sandals, you know the ones.  You throw them on for running errands, playdates, Starbucks runs, walking trade show floors and the like. They seem to match every outfit, are super comfy, and never go out of style. No matter where I go, someone ALWAYS asks me about these shoes. I’m amazed because they really aren’t statement-making, bring-the-house-down Jimmy Choos or Blahniks.  Nine West, purchased while I was pregnant, and stretched out around the ankle from shoving my feet into them after I got too fat to actually bend down and operate the buckle. Don’t you wish you could know how fabulous your favorite pair of shoes is going to be BEFORE you buy them? So you can at least snag two pairs?

Today is a breezy 55 degrees this morning in Vegas, that means it’s time to break out the BOOTS!  I love boots, tall-tall, delicious leather-smelling boots.  Today, I’m sporting a pair from BCBG.

p10100061The cute little DVH dress is pretty much an afterthought. Paired with black tights (a girl’s best friend) and a just-in-case gray cable knit wrap cardigan from Vince. I’m ready for the world.p10100041

I look a little pissed in this picture, but it’s not intentional. I hadn’t had any coffee yet and I was a little tired of taking a whole slew of pictures of my dog’s rear. He also stepped on my BOOTS! and left a big paw print. I left it there to remind me that I have big snuggly dog waiting for me.

I mean really, when I am I going to master this photography thing?

Does anyone know how to work a camera? I want to blame the camera, but I know it’s operator error. A work in progress…

p1010004Today’s ensemble is embroidered lace blouse from Elie Tahari, Banana Republic Martin pants, scored on sale for $32.99, and some pearls with a little sapphire clasp my mom gave me way back when. Outfit would not be complete without deflated beach ball and discarded plastic motorcycle.

The outfit of the day is a weekender, so it’s super casual.  My hubby had to assist with the picture taking because I still can’t figure out the camera…

I’m very excited because it is finally cool enough to wear layers!  Well, at 85 degrees in Vegas it’s at least cool enough to wear one very light layer. I’m a big layer-er. I’m the person who snaps up all those weird pieces on the sale rack, like vests and super tight shirts and big baggy cardigans, pieces that everyone else discards or can’t make sense of. Layer them up, oh yeah, that’s how I roll! The play of color, texture, and proportion can’t be beat, and the warmth is welcome when it gets chilly.

My cool Mona Lisa shirt from Palmer Cash is somewhat covered up by my nerdy-chic sweater vest from Urban Outfitters. My sweater has cool smocking at the shoulders accented with little tiny crystals that don’t show up in the picture, well because, you know why. Basic Elie Tahari jeans round it out.  One very important note here, I am NOT a jeans person! Can you believe it? Maybe twice a month at most. Later when the temp drops,  I have a long baggy cardigan that looks like something one of the Olsen twins might wear, or something pulled out of Grandad’s closet.

Accessories include my favorite Omega men’s watch, the same style James Bond wears.  I’m hoping it will impart just a bit of Bond’s suave unto my reeking geekiness. Oxidized dangling chain earrings top it off. The peace sign I’m flashing isn’t so much a sign of my liberal leanings, it’s just deflecting my discomfort at being photographed.

I’m all set to go see Playhouse Disney Live at the Orleans Arena! It’s gonna be a bitchin’ time.

Since this is a website related to fashion, I thought it would be relevant to include an ongoing post about my personal fashion choices, as they usually inform my designs.  I have divergent tastes, from designer threads to bargain finds, I definitely am not a fashion snob!  But while mixing high and low has been all the rage in recent years, it is a practice that can easily go awry without a bit of restraint, and a bit of balance.  I myself am guilty of a few horrendous mixes that resembled a Goodwill bin with a pair of Hermes-booted legs sticking out, but if everyone looked perfect everyday, what fun would that be?

My first attempt at taking a picture of my daily outfit didn’t really pan out.  Main reason being is that I become entirely spastic when there’s a camera in my hands.  There’s no focal point, the lighting’s wrong and it’s always blurry, because spastic people can’t stop moving, ya know. Bear with me until I find a way to operate the self-portrait mode.  And let’s thank god right now for the miracle of Photoshop!

Here’s me attempting to photograph myself wearing my favorite cowl neck shirt from Banana Republic and a diamond necklace that I first wore on my wedding day. I do believe in wearing jewelry if you are lucky enough to have some, especially pieces with sentimental value. It’s a very personal touch, and it makes the most mundane T shirt look elegant.  Well, so long as the T shirt doesn’t have peanut butter smeared all over it.

That’s my dog Banjo in the background wondering- what the hell craziness is she up to now while I’m waiting so patiently for my bacon treats?
